Boiler Repair Services

If you use a boiler for your home heating needs, you know that it is quite durable and requires little maintenance. However, after using it for some time, it might develop problems such as leakage, noises, a pilot light that is not lighting up or the device may just fail to heat your water. At No1PHD, we offer a wide range of boiler repair services. We work on combination and regular boilers from various sources of heat.

We understand that a boiler that is not working as it is required to may pose health issues that emanate from extreme cold conditions, while a noisy one disturbs your peace. Our professional boiler technicians can deal with such problems as soon as you contact us. As always, never attempt to open and service your boiler if you are not a qualified technician. In addition, do not ignore boiler issues, no matter how small they seem. Read on as we explain some of the major boiler problems that we handle and ways to identify them if they occur.

Noises Coming from Your Boiler

Several of our customers have reported banging noises coming from their boilers. This is called Kettling. Usually, this problem starts as low rumbling noise when the heater is working. Over time, it turns out to be loud, banging noise. In many cases, the problem comes from excess minerals in the water supply. This is usually quite common as many homes are served with hard water. The minerals in hard water continue being deposited in the tank as the heater works. Over time, these minerals change the pressure levels in the boiler tank. Loose parts or other issues could also cause the problem.

We recommend that you call a No1PHD technician as soon as you start hearing the rumbling noise. Timely inspection and repair could help prevent bigger problems such as the perforation of the pipes and tank.

Dripping and Leaking

Another common problem is leakage from the boiler. This problem should always be treated as an emergency whenever you notice it. Leakages usually come from the tank, the pressure relieve valve or the pump. If the leak comes from the tank, the problem could be corrosion and such a tank requires replacement. However, if the leak comes from the pump or pressure relieve valve, the problem can be fixed without replacement. Condensation can also cause water to pool around your boiler.

If you find a leak, do not operate the boiler. The chances are that you may end up having a bigger leak, or in the worst case, you may have a stream of hot steam bursting in your home. Contact our emergency heating services for us to identify the source of the leakage and fix it immediately.

Problem with the Pilot Light

Over the years, boilers have changed in that you are no longer supposed to light a pilot light and leave it running all day long as long as you need the heat. Most boilers use a new technology that only ignites the pilot light when there is need to heat the water. The pilot light usually goes out due to a broken thermocouple that stops the gas supply, a deposit build-up in the pilot light or a draught that blows away the light.

Before you can reignite your pilot light, it is vital to contact us to determine if there is a problem with the gas supply. When we fix the problem, your light should not go off. We can also help you ignite the pilot light according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Low Pressure on the Boiler

Your boiler comes with a pressure gauge that indicates the prevailing water pressure. If the pressure recorded is below 1.0, your boiler has a pressure problem. Low pressure makes your central heating system not to work properly.

There are several reasons why this happens some of which are listed below:

  • When there is a water leak in the system, it lowers the system pressure
  • The pressure relieve valve is faulty and letting lots of pressure away
  • Your radiators were bled recently

When we do not find any of the problems listed above, we will repressurize your heating system. Do not attempt to do it yourself as it may damage the system if not done correctly.

Issues with the Thermostat

You may find your thermostat losing accuracy and under or over heating your home. A faulty thermostat will make your house uninhabitable. Before you invest in another one, we can check if the problem can be fixed. Sometimes the thermostat is working right and your home is warmer than you think. Other times, heat leakage causes your system to work harder. However, you can only tell the problem by having the system checked.

The Boiler is Not Heating

There could be several reasons why you are not getting hot water in your system. Issues with the thermostat, motorised valve failure, broken airlocks and diaphragms along with low water pressure are the leading reasons why you might not get hot water.

Maintenance Checks

It is important to have the boiler checked at least once every year, whether or not it has a problem. Our professional boiler servicing team will inspect and fix small problems before they enlarge and become too costly to repair. Some of the maintenance activities that we carry out include cleaning the tank, checking the piping for leakage, resetting the water pressure and general cleaning of your boiler. We recommend having a boiler maintenance schedule to ensure optimal performance.

After noticing that the house was unusually cold, we found that the heating wasn’t coming on and that our hot water had also failed. We called the team at No 1 PHD who dispatched an engineer to investigate. After discovering that the culprit was a faulty boiler part, they ordered in a new part and got it fitted as quickly as possible. The guys were great, and we couldn’t be happier.

For days, we’ve noticed a foul smell coming from outside and a gurgling sound coming from one of the drains. Whenever it would rain, the area around it would flood slightly and take ages to drain. We tried buying drain unblockers, but none seemed effective. Eventually, we turned to No 1 PHD and were left wondering why we didn’t do this sooner.
