With more people buying white goods and gas appliances via the internet, here at No1 PHD, our Portsmouth plumbers and gas fitters are finding themselves increasingly busy installing washing machines, dishwashers, gas fires, and other appliances for both residential and commercial clients. Are you considering an appliance upgrade or refitting your kitchen, lounge, or bathroom? Do you want an existing or new appliance re-located? No1 PHD has long serving, skilled plumbers and gas fitters happy to help you out.
Maybe your old washing machine has washed its last and given up the fight to keep spinning. You may feel that removing the dead machine, and replacing it with the latest all-washing all-spinning model, is just a matter of disconnecting the old flexible pipes, and re-connecting the new ones. But is it?
Was your original machine plumbed in by an experienced plumber, or a DIY enthusiast? How much more powerful will your new machine be, compared to the old one? In many situations, old pipework and joints continue doing their job of supplying water to the appliance without any sign of a problem. Until that is, they get disturbed by someone trying to undo connections that are sealed tight by things like calcium build-up.
Our qualified plumbers around Portsmouth won’t just undo one machine and connect another. They will check the feed in, check old joints along the run, and check your waste water outlet and drain pipe. After-all, if something is going to leak, it will be after you’ve set the timer to wash while you’re in bed sleeping, or when you’ve left for work. Our fitters won’t leave anything to chance, to ensure your machine manufacturer’s warranty remains valid for its full period.
Absolutely blown away by the service we received. Took all the stress out of losing our heating and hot water. Highly recommended!

Couldn’t have asked for a faster resolution to our drainage conundrum. Nothing was too much for these guys who were brilliant throughout.

No matter how good a DIY aficionado you are, all gas appliances have to be installed by a fully accredited engineer on the gas safe register. It’s the law. Gas appliances are perfectly safe to use when they have been properly installed. The gas pressure has to be checked to ensure the flame is burning correctly (a nice blue colour). If it’s any other colour, you run the risk of carbon monoxide, the silent killer, being released into the room. Our fitters will also check all old and new connections with monitors, to ensure no gas is escaping. Talk to our gas fitter about gas and carbon monoxide alarms, and where to fit them. It’s always good to have a second line of defence.
Our Portsmouth based No1 PHD gas engineers have years of experience in installing all kinds of gas appliances from boilers to cookers, and everything in between. For instance, did you know that even today, certain gas appliances are not allowed to be fitted in certain rooms, unless they meet specific criteria. Namely, include safety gas shut off valves to ensure there is no build-up of toxic gases. If you’re thinking about that attractive wall mounted gas fire you’ve seen online, contact PHD’s local Portsmouth gas fitters to be sure it can be fitted where you want it.
Finally, being gas aware, is not just about having your gas appliances fitted correctly. Although it’s not set in law for home owner-occupiers, having your appliances serviced on an annual basis makes sound common sense. No1 PHD’s Portsmouth gas fitters and engineers are happy to visit you, and check all your gas appliances on a single visit, including your central heating boiler. In this way, you can rest assured all your appliances and equipment are in good repair for the next twelve months.

After noticing that the house was unusually cold, we found that the heating wasn’t coming on and that our hot water had also failed. We called the team at No 1 PHD who dispatched an engineer to investigate. After discovering that the culprit was a faulty boiler part, they ordered in a new part and got it fitted as quickly as possible. The guys were great, and we couldn’t be happier.
For days, we’ve noticed a foul smell coming from outside and a gurgling sound coming from one of the drains. Whenever it would rain, the area around it would flood slightly and take ages to drain. We tried buying drain unblockers, but none seemed effective. Eventually, we turned to No 1 PHD and were left wondering why we didn’t do this sooner.
