When is a gas safety certificate required?
Who needs a gas safety certificate? Landlords must have a valid certificate – called a CP12 – when they rent out a property that has gas appliances fitted. Even if the place is only let out temporarily. To be valid, the certificate must have been issued by a Gas Safe registered engineer and it must be less than 12 months old. HMOs, apartments, bedsits and houses all require a landlord’s certificate, and the documentation should be provided to renters and their agents. How long does it take to get a gas safety certificate?
