Southampton Stopcock Installation & Repair Services

A stopcock going faulty isn’t always an emergency, but it should be treated as one nonetheless because, as we’ll explain, it can make a plumbing emergency so much worse if it doesn’t do its job properly. That’s why if you suspect your stopcock of being faulty, or it’s just old and you want to replace it, or you simply want your stopcock moving to a more convenient location, perhaps due to some remodelling work, No1PHD is the company for you. Call us today to book an appointment.

What is a Stopcock

Stopcocks serve as a single point of access for water going into your property. And, being a single point of access, they can prevent water from entering your building altogether—which is exactly what a stopcock is for. Think of it as a tap, but when you turn this tap on and off, you’re turning the water on and off in the whole building. This is a crucial feature during any kind of plumbing emergency, or when non-emergency plumbing work is being undertaken. Repairing and replacing a stopcock is much more involved than replacing a regular faucet, so let our team of Southampton trained plumbing professionals take care of it for you.

Why is a Stopcock Important?

The ability to turn on and off the flow of water going into your property is important because most of the taps in your building will likely not have a means of disabling the water supply before the tap itself. This means that, should you call out No1PHD to your Southampton residence to replace your kitchen sink taps, for example, our expert would have a lot of extra work to do to stop water from fountaining out of the pipes when the old taps were removed. And this goes for the majority of waters sources in your property. Except for things like washing machines, most water outlets do not have their own isolation valve. Perhaps more importantly, however, it allows you to quickly shut the water off in the event of a plumbing emergency, such as a serious leak and/or flooding in the building.

Where Is My Stopcock?

The location of a stopcock varies greatly from property to property. As a very general rule, it is usually low down—you are unlikely to find a stopcock installed on the second floor of your house, for example. It will typically be near where the water main enters your property. It is important to familiarise yourself with the location of your stopcock because, even though you should always call No1PHD for your plumbing emergencies, knowing how to shut the water off during such an emergency can greatly reduce the amount of water damage done. We are quick to respond to plumbing emergencies, but even we can’t be at your property instantly. If you can’t find your stopcock, and there are no documents that came with the building that help, a No1PHD professional should be able to help you out. Once you find the location of your stopcock, it might be worth making a note of it somewhere, for you and others.

After noticing that the house was unusually cold, we found that the heating wasn’t coming on and that our hot water had also failed. We called the team at No 1 PHD who dispatched an engineer to investigate. After discovering that the culprit was a faulty boiler part, they ordered in a new part and got it fitted as quickly as possible. The guys were great, and we couldn’t be happier.

For days, we’ve noticed a foul smell coming from outside and a gurgling sound coming from one of the drains. Whenever it would rain, the area around it would flood slightly and take ages to drain. We tried buying drain unblockers, but none seemed effective. Eventually, we turned to No 1 PHD and were left wondering why we didn’t do this sooner.
