Big Bore Pipework Experts

We work across a wide range of functions, such as air conditioning, ventilation, boiler rooms, factories, drainage, sewage, and both commercial and industrial installations. We carry out projects in chemical plants, gas, oil and LPG refineries, pumping stations, sewage plants, water, agriculture and transport systems.

Boiler Houses

We work on every stage of boiler house design, maintenance and replacement, including the installation of new big bore pipes, and joining to existing pipework, both inside and outside the boiler house. We are qualified to weld a wide variety of materials, including stainless and mild steel. The systems we work with are equally varied, and include oil, steam and gas powered installations. Drain, blowdown and feed water are among the pipe functions we install, repair and remove.

Maintenance

Many plants that use big bore pipework, are safety-critical installations. We can carry out regular maintenance checks to ensure that for example, pipes carrying gas, are in good condition. Planned inspections can identify problems early on, and ensure that they do not develop into issues that compromise plant or boiler room functioning, or more seriously, employee or public safety. In larger installations, we can ensure that pipe infrastructure is operating at maximum efficiency, to raise productivity and reduce energy consumption.

Repair Of Large Bore Pipes

We can cut pipes in safety-critical ATEX environments, such as refineries and power plants, using our hydrocutting machines. These use extremely high powered water jets to cut through steel and other materials. They enable us to operate at speed, without producing sparks that could ignite gases. We also offer pipe wrapping, if this is a suitable method of repairing the pipe. We can provide this as an emergency repair, pending a full repair at a later date. At that point, it may be preferable to install wrapped pipe as a replacement, depending on the site requirements.

New or replacement drainage pipes are often made of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) as this is a lighter and stronger material than some of the previous alternatives. These pipes also resist chemical attack, and can flex when under pressure, without cracking.

Health and Safety

Site operators need to be confident that we take safety as seriously as they do. We will assess the on-site safety requirements before any project begins, and will carry out a job-specific risk assessment. We can also supply working methods statements, hot work permits and other documentation as required.

Our Gas Safe certification and qualified, experienced engineers ensure a service that is safe, high quality and reliable. We can supply NEBOSH qualified engineers and other highly trained technical personnel, such as those with welding training for large bore pipes. Our operators will also hold all other relevant qualifications, such as confined space training certificates. We fit our staff with premium quality PPE, and use only fully certified equipment, which has been risk assessed and is rigorously checked and maintained.

Technical Requirements Expertise

There are large numbers of regulations that govern the type, bore size, length, location and installation depth of big bore pipes. We have in-depth knowledge of the technical requirements that apply to the different types of pipes, and to what they can carry. We’re also able to install and service specialised pipe types, such as those for drinking water, those for contaminated ground, or pipes for hot or cold water systems, that are pre-insulated to conserve energy.

Our engineers are used to working with pipes both above and below ground. We offer both the trench excavation method, and “trenchless” installation. While trench excavation groundworks can cost less in capital terms, they may be more disruptive if public paths, roads or car parks have to be closed off. Our trenchless installation service involves underground “mole” equipment which works without breaking the surface.

After noticing that the house was unusually cold, we found that the heating wasn’t coming on and that our hot water had also failed. We called the team at No 1 PHD who dispatched an engineer to investigate. After discovering that the culprit was a faulty boiler part, they ordered in a new part and got it fitted as quickly as possible. The guys were great, and we couldn’t be happier.

For days, we’ve noticed a foul smell coming from outside and a gurgling sound coming from one of the drains. Whenever it would rain, the area around it would flood slightly and take ages to drain. We tried buying drain unblockers, but none seemed effective. Eventually, we turned to No 1 PHD and were left wondering why we didn’t do this sooner.
