It’s an unfortunate and unavoidable reality that drain pipes will gradually lose capacity over time due to build-up of deposits and other substances inside the pipe itself. The causes of that build up can vary, but the solution doesn’t have to. Drain milling provides a simpler, quicker, less intrusive method of cleaning drain pipes. No excavations, no replacements. Just the latest in drain cleaning equipment and plenty of expertise to back it up. To have your drains cleared out quickly and efficiently, contact No1 PHD today and speak to one of our many experts.
Drain milling involves a union between CCTV cameras, high-pressure water jets, and what is essentially a wide bore drill bit. These come together to allow our expert drain millers to remove deposits from the inside of your drain pipes, freeing up the internal space to the full diameter of the pipe and allowing water to flow more freely through it. In some cases, drain milling can leave a pipe flowing more freely than when it was first installed thanks to the removal concrete and jointing compound excess. The mill bit is carefully selected to match the bore of the drainpipe and is meticulously worked through the pipe by one of our professional drainage specialists until it is free of all its crusty deposits.
A number of things can begin to build up in underground drainpipes over enough time. Most commonly, calcium (limescale) deposits from the water itself will bond to the inner walls of the pipe during regular use. It is also not uncommon to find excess concrete and jointing compound from the fitting process which has set on the inside of the pipe where it was squeezed out of joints. Another offender is plant roots, which can sometimes work their way into the pipe through cracks and joints, and begin to cause blockages in the pipe itself if left alone. If, during the course of the drain milling procedure, your No1PHD encounters roots in your pipes, they may recommend drain lining in order to prevent it happening again in the future. And if you choose to have your drains lined, there’s no better time to do it than just after it’s been milled.
Perhaps the most compelling benefit to drain milling over alternative drain cleaning methods of similar effect is that it is much cheaper. Along the same lines, it is also far more convenient, both in the sense that it requires little to no disruption of the surrounding area and also in that it is far quicker than other methods. There is no need to excavate entire areas just to get to a drain pipe for inspection. Drain milling isn’t only effective at removing deposits, however, it is equally as effective at dealing with any blockages it may encounter during the process. Think of it as an unblocking and servicing procedure all in one. A procedure that will likely leave your drains flowing better than the day they were installed.
The use of CCTV during the drain milling process allows our No1PHD professionals to ensure they don’t do more harm than good while performing the procedure. A particular eroded or cracked section of pipe may not withstand the milling process, so it is crucial that our experts know what they are dealing with. Similarly, the milling process may be too much for pitch fibre pipes, which will likely be over 50 years old by now, and as much as 70 years old. In those cases, you may want to talk to us about pitch fibre replacement, rather than causing unnecessary damage to your drain pipes.
Drain milling is very a specialist procedure and requires the utmost expertise and training. At No1 PHD, we have that expertise, and we’d be happy to put it to use on your drainage issues. Call us today on 08006906777 to book an appointment.
