Flooding & Plumbing Services

Emergencies, by their very nature, are unexpected and often serious. At No1PHD we have a team of trained professional plumbers with a wealth of expertise, ready to tackle your flooding and plumbing emergencies.

Unfortunately, incidents happen in the plumbing world. Sometimes due to poorly executed plumbing work in the past, sometimes due to a lack of proper maintenance over time, sometimes even just a freak accident or completely unknown quantity. When such an incident results in a serious plumbing issue—or even a flooding issue—No1PHD have the tools and expertise to help you as quickly as possible. Nobody wants to have to deal with this kind of problem, but if you must, you’ll feel better for having No1PHD on your team.

Steps You Can Take in a Plumbing Emergency

While No1PHD will attend to your problem with the very most haste, you may still find yourself wanting to do something while you wait for our experts to arrive. First and foremost, ensure that any action you take does not put yourself or anyone else in danger. In the case of most flooding incidents that are the result of a plumbing problem, turning the water supply off could help. It should be a point of importance to know where your property’s stopcock (the main cutoff for your water supply) is located for just such an occasion. If the flooding is severe—or you cannot turn the water supply off—you should consider turning the electricity off also. Finally, if nothing else can be done, you might consider moving any items that are susceptible to water damage away from the affected area. After that, simply wait for your No1PHD drainage professionals to arrive and deal with your problem. But we have to stress, don’t do anything that might put you in danger. Let us take the risks.

Leaking Pipes

The most common type of flooding emergency related to plumbing is a severely broken water pipe. These pipes are constantly under pressure (the amount of pressure varies from region to region), so if they were to break they would shoot water out under that pressure. Though the pressure should never be significant enough to break the skin, it’s still best not to get in the way of any narrow jets of water coming from broken pipes. For a significant break in the pipes, this would be like having a fully open tap running. While age and poor plumbing work can result in minor leaks behind walls and under floorboards, major leaks like the one mentioned above are more typically the result of some kind of impact. Unfortunately, this also means that the affected pipe is more likely to have been in an exposed location where it can spray water over a greater area. If this happens, No1PHD should be called immediately. Water can do a lot of damage if left to its own devices.

Other Plumbing Emergencies

Broken pipes aren’t the only kind of plumbing emergency you can rely on No1PHD to fix, however. Here are some other plumbing emergencies;

  • Blocked drains. Especially frequently used drains where wastewater can begin to flood the area surprisingly quickly.
  • Leaking pipes, as mentioned above, but don’t feel that only a seriously leaking pipe is an emergency. Any damp patches on walls or dripping from a ceiling can be a sign of a leaking pipe out of sight.
  • Toilet blockages, particularly if any other drains (such baths or sinks) in the same area are also blocked, as this would indicate a more serious blockage.
  • Any kind of sewage backing up. This can present itself the obvious way; backed up drains throughout the property, but it can also be visible as areas of land becoming “swampy”, and foul smells permeating the property.
  • Any kind of flooding, whether there is a clear and obvious cause or not. Water damage can be very expensive, so the sooner you have the problem dealt with, the better.

This list is by no means definitive. If you have a plumbing problem that you consider an emergency, give No1PHD a call and let us take care of it.

After noticing that the house was unusually cold, we found that the heating wasn’t coming on and that our hot water had also failed. We called the team at No 1 PHD who dispatched an engineer to investigate. After discovering that the culprit was a faulty boiler part, they ordered in a new part and got it fitted as quickly as possible. The guys were great, and we couldn’t be happier.

For days, we’ve noticed a foul smell coming from outside and a gurgling sound coming from one of the drains. Whenever it would rain, the area around it would flood slightly and take ages to drain. We tried buying drain unblockers, but none seemed effective. Eventually, we turned to No 1 PHD and were left wondering why we didn’t do this sooner.
